This presentation focuses on psychoanalytic exploration of the Asian American experience.

It is often assumed that Asian Americans are successful in America:

There are two parts to this presentation.

As an example of othering, the phenomenon of Asian fetish, the fetishization of Asian women and feminization of Asian men will be explored.

The second part of the presentation will address traumas related to Asian cultural practices such as filial piety and emphasis on education. Clinical examples and implications are discussed.

Learning Objectives:  After attending event, participants will be able to:

2.    Describe how the Model Minority stereotype obscures othering of Asian Americans.
